Jeremy “Ox” Tyree was born and raised in the small farming community of New Salisbury, Indiana. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1992 at the age of 17, completing recruit training at Parris Island before attending Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger and The School of Infantry. After graduating from SOI, he received orders to 1st Battalion, 8th Marines, Charlie Company, 3rd Platoon, where he served as a rifleman, SAW gunner, and Fire Team Leader. In 1993, he deployed with Battalion Landing Team 1/8, 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, participating in Operation Restore Hope in Somalia following the Battle of Mogadishu, as well as Operation Deny Flight in Bosnia. Shortly after returning from deployment, he was ordered back to Parris Island as a Primary Marksmanship Instructor, MOS 8531, serving in that role from 1994 to 1997 before being required to laterally move from MOS 0311.

After a one-year extension, he reenlisted into MOS 6282 as an Environmental/Escape Mechanic for the AV-8B and, upon completing training, received orders to Marine Attack Squadron 513 in 1998. Reporting to VMA-513 as a Sergeant, he was assigned as Shop NCOIC and went on to earn Multi-System Quality Assurance Representative, High-Power Qualification, and NATOPS Instructor Qualification. During his time with VMA-513, he deployed four times, supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in 2002, Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003 and 2006, and the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit in 2009. From 2008 to 2012, he served as the Quality Assurance Chief for VMA-513. He achieved the rank of Gunnery Sergeant in 2004 and retired in 2012 after 20 years of service. Following retirement, he began working for the City of Yuma Fire Department as a Fire Engineer. He also serves as the Pipe Sergeant for the United Yuma Firefighters Pipes and Drums, works as a bagpipe instructor, and competes as a solo bagpiper. He is married and has three children, one of whom serves as a Corpsman with 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, India Company.
