Bob Claypool is responsible for responding to Department of Defense (DOD) requirements and advocacy for those requirements within the Electronic Systems Sector (ES); ensuring ES gives expeditious and focused attention to the DOD customer. In this position, Bob leads a team of subject matter experts that work with our business areas to provide expertise in emerging customer needs, technology development, and competitive responses to national security requirements. Additionally, Bob and team provide BAE Systems the insight and ability to respond strategically to changes in acquisition policy, funding and strategy of our customer base. Bob joined BAE Systems in August of 2011, serving as VP of Marine Corps Programs until August of 2018.

Bob began his defense and aerospace career as a Marine Corps Officer and Naval Aviator. His service included combat, worldwide deployments, operational commands at the squadron and group level, and two acquisition tours. The latter included Director of Marine Aviation Programs & Weapons and the Marine Lead for the Joint Strike Fighter Program; specializing in requirements development, acquisition strategy, and budget planning and execution.

Born in Woodbridge, VA, Bob graduated from the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science Degree in General Engineering. He later attained a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the United States Naval War College, winning the Forestall Strategic Force Planning Award. He has also won an Aviation Week & Space Technology Laureate for work done during OIF-1. Bob is a member of the Naval Academy Alumni Association, the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation and the Marine Corps Aviation Association.

Bob has two daughters and one son and resides in Alexandria, VA. His hobbies include motorcycle riding, Washington football, Nationals baseball and Capitals hockey.
